Rehearsal Dates and Time for Spring 2025: Mondays from 5:15pm-6:15pm

Spring 2025 Schedule: Available Here

This year, the Greater Longview Children’s Choir is providing two choir classes that hope to accommodate all levels of singing. The directors will offer an informal evaluation to each student on the first day of rehearsal to determine placement. Both choirs will foster a fun learning environment, promote a love of music and friendships, and receive excellent instruction by highly qualified directors. To prepare for the first rehearsal, please tell your child that they will sing a familiar tune such as “Row, Row, Row Your Boat” or “Happy Birthday,” for a director. Additionally, they may be asked to sing a solfege scale. Range, pitch matching, and other music skills will be analyzed so each child can be placed in the choir that best meets their needs. Every student will receive a choir assignment for the semester. No child will be turned away based on skill. The directors will notify parents of choir placement before the second week of choir.  Prelude Choir and Concert Choir will meet simultaneously.

Prelude Choir

Prelude Choir is designed to introduce children to the vocal and musical skills required for classical choral singing. Solfege, a music education method that uses DO-RE-MI, will be introduced and utilized from the beginning of the year. Basic music theory, aural skills, and sight-reading will also be taught. Performance repertoire will represent multiple languages and cultures as well as reinforce music history concepts. The director of the Prelude Choir is Meredith Ramos.

Concert Choir

Concert Choir is designed to provide an advanced choral opportunity for students with an extensive prior musical background. Students will be challenged with a higher degree of sight-reading and vocal proficiency. Repertoire selections will represent intermediate to advanced in regards to music theory, history, cultures, and language. The director of the Concert Choir is Lynette Vincent.
